HRSA: Cultural Competence Resources for Health Care Providers

With growing concerns about racial and ethnic disparities in health care delivery and the need for healthcare systems to accommodate increasingly diverse patient populations, cultural sensitivity has become more and more a matter of national concern and attention. Think Cultural Health Training
A free self-learning, Web-based program based on principles outlined in the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in Health Care developed by The Office of Minority Health, under the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Medicare's Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) in every state are facilitating administration of the CLAS program with physicians on behalf of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Primary Practice Assessment for Cultural Competency
Free QIO assistance from Ohio KePRO (Ohio) and Health Care Excel (Indiana and Kentucky) includes pre- and post-module assessment of office policy/practices as well as assistance with implementation of CLAS standards.

Start the training modules

These modules will increase your awareness of your own cultural beliefs and discover how culturally differences and language and literacy issues can and do impact the delivery of quality health care. The program is organized by three distinct themes: Culturally Competent Care, Language Access Services, and Organizational Supports for Cultural Competency.
